Course Description...

Let the adventure continue! This course is designed to expand your diving knowledge and experiences while under the supervision of an instructor. Upon successful completion of the course, you are certified to conduct dives in conditions similiar to those you were trained in. This course is appropriate for divers who:

Just completed a NAUI Scuba Diver course.
Desire additional training.
Have moved from one diving area to another and desire a local orientation.
Do not have, but wish to obtain, NAUI certification.

Who Can Take the Course...

This course is open to anyone age 18 and older. (NOT JUST Penn State students and faculty!)

You must be a certified scuba diver with a certification card from a recognized scuba certifying agency.

The nature of scuba diving requires those who participate to be good swimmers. A general ability to swim and good health are required.

How Much Does the Course Cost...

The cost of the course is $125.00 (Course costs are subject to change without notice.)

The cost of the course includes your gear rental, all instructor, and certification fees. You must cover your entrance and camping fees at the quarries (approximately $50).

Refunds:

There is a $20 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit required to sign up for the course. The remaining cost of the course can be refunded if you do not attend. Once you start the course, no refund will be issued.

Where, When, and How Long is the Course...

The course is run during the first summer session and the fall semester. The course takes one weekend to complete. We leave early Saturday morning for Willow Springs Park to do four dives (including a night dive) and camp overnight. Sunday morning we head to Bainbridge Scuba Center to do two deep dives.

Additionally a classroom session may need to be scheduled after the dives to take the written exam. This session will be held in the Natatorium located on campus at the corner of Bigler and Curtin roads in room 201.

What Will I Be Learning...

The entire course is taught in the open water environment and consists of doing six dives in varying environments while doing various skills. The dives are selected from the list below depending on locations and conditions.

Required Dives:

Navigation dive
Night or low visibility dive
Deep dive (greater than 60 feet)

Optional Dives (must do three):

Search and recovery dive
Boat diving
Light salvage
Hunting and collecting
Exploration and underwater mapping
Non-penetration wreck diving
Observation and data collection
Diving in surf or currents
Altitude diving
Salt water or fresh water diving
Shore diving
Diving for photos or video
Using dive computers

To Register for the Course:

Consult our list of upcoming courses. When you see this course listed, there will be an "enroll" link so you can sign up online. Payment instructions will be included with your online enrollment.

You CANNOT schedule our courses through eLion.

Confirmations:

Once we receive your check, someone will send you an e-mail confirmation to let you know we received the check and give you any additional information you may need about the course. You are not officially enrolled in the course until you receive this confirmation!
