Certification Dives...Course Description...The certification dives are the second half of the Scuba Diver course and provide an opportunity for those people who have successfully completed the Scuba Diver course to do their five dives in open water which are required to gain certification to dive on your own. The certification dives are kept separate because of the transient nature of our students, some people prefer to do their open water dives in more tropical conditions or in a location closer to their home. Also some people take this course just to satisfy their KINES requirement and have no desire to get certified, thus this course is not necessary. You have SIX months from the time you complete the Scuba Diver course to successfully complete this course and earn your certification. Check out all your options for certification. Who Can Take the Course...This course is open to anyone age 18 and older who has successfully completed our Scuba Diver course or a similar introductory scuba course from a recognized scuba certifying agency and has obtained a letter of referral from their instructor. (NOT JUST Penn State students and faculty!) This includes anyone who has successfully completed the Penn State KINES 045 course. The nature of scuba diving requires those who participate to be good swimmers. A general ability to swim and good health are required. How Much Does the Course Cost...The cost of the certification dives is $175.00 (Course costs are subject to change without notice.) The cost of the course includes your gear rental, transportation, entrance fees, and all instructor and certification fees.
Participation and payment for this course Refunds:There is a $20 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit required to sign up for the certification dives. The remaining cost of the dives can be refunded if you do not attend the dives. Once you start the trip, no refund will be issued if you fail to complete the dives. Where, When, and How Long is the Course...The certification weekend is held after every Scuba Diver course (weather permitting) and is only one weekend long. We leave early both mornings and return around 6pm each evening. We conduct the dives at Blue Hole Quarry located in Williamsburg, PA (about an hour from State College). When is the next certification dive weekend being offered:
