Course Description...

This is an introductory, non-certification program designed to introduce you to the joys of scuba diving. It gives you a one hour opportunity to experience the amazing world that awaits you underwater and hopefully convinces you to enroll in the Scuba Diver course to get certified to dive on your own.

Who Can Take the Course...

This course is open to anyone age 18 and older. (NOT JUST Penn State students and faculty!)

This course is specifically geared towards attendance by the general public. Arrangements can also be made to accommodate groups of people wanting to try scuba.

The nature of scuba diving requires those who participate to be good swimmers. A general ability to swim and good health are required.

How Much Does the Course Cost...

The cost of the course is $10.00 (Course costs are subject to change without notice.)

If you decide to take our Scuba Diver course that $10 can be used towards the cost of that course.

All scuba equipment is provided, you need to provide:

a swimsuit
a towel
a t-shirt or sweatshirt (optional, but recommended)
a pair of socks (preferably thick cotton, they will get wet)

Refunds:

Due to the short time frame of this event and the low cost, refunds will not be given.

Where, When, and How Long is the Course...

This course is run occationally throughout the year as interest warrants. The course is normally run on a weekend in the afternoon and consists of several one hour sessions of which you attend one.

The course is held in the indoor pool of the Natatorium located on campus at the corner of Bigler and Curtain roads. We will have a sign up table setup on the pool deck just outside of the men's locker-room on the day of the event.

What Will I Be Learning...

You will be shown how to adjust and use the scuba equipment along with a few safety procedures so that you can avoid any injury to yourself or others. This instruction takes about 15 minutes, leaving you with about 30 to 45 minutes of time to play in the pool with the various toys that we provide such as an underwater puzzle and an underwater checkers game.

How Do I Register...

To Register for the Course:

Contact the course coordnator (new window) to signup for a time slot and reserve your space. Each one hour session is filled on a first come, first serve basis unless you reserve a spot in advance. You do not need to pay in advance. All money will be collected on the day of the event in the form of cash or checks made out to "Nittany Divers".

Refunds:

Due to the short time frame of this event and the low cost, refunds will not be given. You will be able to use your $10 fee towards the cost of the Scuba Diver course if you decide to enroll and get certified to dive on your own.
