Nitrox Course...Course Description...Nitrox diving is the use of oxygen enriched air for scuba diving. Because of the increased amount of oxygen in the gas that you are breathing, it allows you to do safer dives or longer dives. This course will introduce you to the history of nitrox, give you the knowledge to dive nitrox safely, and let you practice the skills involved in diving nitrox. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be qualified to use oxygen enriched air up to 40% oxygen. This course is taught one of two ways. For those divers who already hold an advanced certification, a one day academic course is offered without any open water dives. Alternately a two day course involving both the academic portion and open water dives is offered. Who Can Take the Course...This course is open to anyone age 18 and older. (NOT JUST Penn State students and faculty!) You must be a certified scuba diver with a certification card from a recognized scuba certifying agency. For the academic only version of the course you must be a certified advanced scuba diver with a certification card from a recognized scuba certifying agency. The nature of scuba diving requires those who participate to be good swimmers. A general ability to swim and good health are required. How Much Does the Course Cost...The cost of the course is $120.00 for the academic only course and $160.00 for the academic and open water dives course. (Course costs are subject to change without notice.) The cost of the course includes your gear rental, nitrox gas fills, all instructor, and certification fees.
